FINAL SELF-ASSESSMENT

Write a 3-page essay in which you discuss what you think comprises good essay writing, using the criteria we've created in class as a starting point.  You should cite your own writing to exemplify these criteria, by either negative or positive illustration.  That is, to make your criteria clear, you'll refer to your own writing, but in cases where you aren't good at a particular aspect of writing (e.g., writing an argument with a main idea that joins everything together), you'll critique your writing or discuss what you might have done.

To do a thorough job, you would probably have to write 20-100 pages.  You will have to choose what you see as the most important criteria--and that may be the most challenging part of the assignment, because I will be judging you in part on what you've learned about academic writing.  Of course, you can argue for your own point of view, but you won't score many points for arguing that avoiding comma splices and spelling errors is the key to a successful essay!
