You may want to contact Mr. Huynh Sanh Thong of Harvard, long-time historian and scholar on Vietnam. He is chief editor of Vietnam Forum, a periodical, which also included a piece about Dat Nuoc (Land and Water), their meanings and significance.

Unfornately, I don't have his contact information, but I'm sure you can find it via direct contact to Harvard. His last name is Huynh, btw, not Thong :) And is probably better known formally as Dr. Huynh Sanh Thong over there.
