Recognise the pictures of the shrines. I was in the 48th Aviation Company that arrived at the air base before it was constructed. During the following year the parallel runways were poured - using a granite hill northwest of the field which was totally reduced to crused rock for use in the runways and ramps. Made many trips into Thap Cham and Phan Rang - enjoyed walking through the market in Phan Rang - couldn't watch the older men eating thousand year duck eggs - (cultural void too wide?) - or weak stomach! Unit allowed employment of Cham young people at the camp during the day. Many humorous happenings as a result. Gentle people.
