Hi Jack,
I was at Phan Rang AB 1970-71 and was a C-123K crew chief. I did not know your dad, but I remember the crash well. I was told by witnesses that the pilot attempted to do a "barrel-roll" on his final pass. I got to the flightline the evening of the crash and debris was scattered over a very large area. I'm sure the end came very quickly for all aboard and that no one suffered.
