Larry, I was a transport driver at Phan Rang Air Base with 2 Squadron, RAAF - the Aussie Canberra bombers in '67 -'68 and again in '69-'70. Apart from working at the bomb dump, also transporting frag orders from the bomb dump to the flight line, was also refuelling our aircraft and carrying out other driving requirements. We were briefed that when we went off base on supply runs or to pick up our Vietnamese workers we should be aware of anyone around our vehicles as there was the possibility that an explosive device could be placed in the fuel (gas) tank in such a way that when the tank cap was removed to refill the tank, the device would explode. Fortunately this did not happen to us aussies but do you know whether any of the U.S. drivers suffered this misfortune? I need to know for my veteran's claim which seems to be ongoing. All assistance will be greatly received and appreciated. Best regards, Col.
