I was just a kid during the war. My parents, both college aged students at the time could not stand her. They knew and understood that many of these men had no desire to go off to war and die. Her comments and actions were not aimed at the correct group. The men in the field probably would more than be happy to throw down their guns and go home. The nice clean cut guy in uniform sitting comfortably behind a desk is the man she wanted or should have gone after.
I never saw that she visited a prison camp in the war. I'm sure she did. But with this in mind, these guys faced never seeing their families again because they obedinently served their nation. They I'm sure hoped she would see their situation and help but instead got a boot in the face. Some never came home and others were left in that country to be forgotten. Many of those guys left behind I'm sure are all dead by now and if they aren't have probably prayed for death.
As I understand it, she basically called these men baby killers. I'm sure lots of children died by acident and some on purpose. This war was a dirty war and there was nothing clean about it. Children were given bombs to carry to our men in baskets. The enemy didn't care wither or not their children or these children would die, the only thing they cared about was winning. So, there was no clear cut line on who you could trust and who you could not. But my question is does Jane Fonda support the right to choose wither or not you terminate a babies life? In other words is she supporting "Pro Choice"? If so, is this form of murder different and more acceptable?
In a nut shell, I'm sure she has had these events rubbed in her face more than once. If she's sorry for these actions she should be forgiven and this never brought up again. There's nothing you can do about the past except learn from it. But I do not think she should be considered woman of the year. In the line of women to qualifiy for this title, I think you have too many to choose from to consider Ms. Fonda for this position.
Thanks,
