As I look at the responses to this post, I see "Joe N." is all over it! Whoa! In this brief ad hominem attack, I suggest that Mr. N maybe find something better to do with his time than respond to nearly every attack on Jane. Nothing he can say will make any of us say: "Gee, he's right... she's not so bad after all!" Get real. It WILL NOT happen.
I, and others, find her MORALLY reprehensible. Attemping to reason with us with allegd "facts" will not affect our moral judgments of her character. If SHE deserves any respect, she will only get it once she opens her eyes and acknowledges that PEACE DOES NOT ALWAYS WORK. Go ask some Iraqis what they think... I'm really sure they wanted to live under that harsh dictator for a couple more decates... under rule of a "man" who put children in prison, tortured people who spoke out, and who used chemical weapons on his own fellow countrymen. If Jane doesn't want war to free these people, she's by default willing to accept the horrible treachery that Saddam forced on his people. Then she might argue that peace is the way... ah, maybe so, but for peace or diplomacy to work, you need a REASONABLE OTHER SIDE. This is not the case with Saddam, and you cannot argue that he is. Third, she might say that we're there to get oil. Again, no argument. If that was true, why did we bother giving the oil fields back after the first Gulf War.
People like Jane Fonda live in a world of delusion. Her claim that Americans "ignore history and reality" is a misstatement by her... for SHE is the one who is out of touch with reality. Why not send her over to have a chemical bath like so many Iraqis were subject to over the last few decades... The reality of this world is that terrible rulers and administrations DO EXIST, and they WILL NOT succomb to normal peaceful or diplomatic means in search of a resolution.
On a side note, I hear Jane Fonda and Peter Arnett are dating now... maybe they should LEAVE this country if they don't like it... nobody would really miss her. Maybe those two can start their own country... call it "Traitors for Peace."
