Protest

What It Boils Down To

From Larry, on Fri, 16 Oct 1998 16:04:31 GMT (in response to: GLAD TO SERVE)

I agree with Glad To Serve. I've gone through a lot of changes since I went to Vietnam in 1969. What it all boils down to for me is all those men who will always be a part of me no matter how the debate over right and wrong progresses. What I learned in Vietnam was to distinguish truth from lies, to accept that hate exists, and to know that love keeps us alive. I was a minister's son from the Midwest. I thought it was my duty to go to Vietnam. I've been a part of the debate, but now I'm over it. It happened. Right or wrong, it happened and we can't change it. We can only love our friends, living and lost, and be thankful that we live in a country where debate and diverse ideas are tolerated and encouraged. I am happy to see the diversity of ideas here. I make no apologies for choosing to go to Vietnam.
