Protest

Here we go again . . .

From Joe N., on Sun, 23 Apr 2000 21:47:37 GMT (in response to: wrong)

We agree on these facts:

1. US involvement in Viet Nam was wrong;

2. The troops were wrong in furthering that wrong.

None of that adds up to the false claim that they were "defending . . . freedom": the US was not inn danger, so they were not defending the US. They were, as the facts show, not defending S. Viet Nam's freedom: every S. Viet Nam gov't the US backed was first put in place by the US. Thus the US prevented, in violation of Geneva Accords, international law, and treaties to which the US were party, free elections--and "freedom"--in S. Viet Nam.

As to the troops being "maltreated" when they returned? That whiner's assertion is vastly exaggerated--and _never substantiated_. But did the troops deserve _praise_? When do we _praise_ those who do wrong for having done wrong? When do we _praise_ those who are dupes for being duped? When do we call such "heroes"?

When? When we _lie_.
