Protest

John Nguyen...thank you!

From Casey, on Mon, 23 Jun 1997 23:43:47 GMT (in response to: Thanks to the Vietnam War Protesters.)

John,

Thank you for you comments on the Vietnam War protesters. That came from the heart and I appreciate your candor here. So many never took the time to see what the outcome of their actions were concerning the Vietnam War and the American fighting men as well as other allies. Nor did they take the time to understand that your people deserved freedom...nor remembered the history of our own country when we fought the British for this land we now claim as our own. Never mind that we stole it from the Indian nations and treated them like dirt. Your trip must have been terrible John...and I am so sorry that you had to endure that kind of hardship in your young life. The one thing I will say to you today is that given it all to do again...I would proudly go and fight in your country again if it meant a chance for your peoples freedom. I spent 18 months in the Quang Tri providence..and north. Place like Con Thien, KheSahn, Camp Carrol and "the street without joy" and many of my brothers fell because this country never stood behind us. Some might say that the war was over early becazuse of the protesters...and I say perhaps...but at what price? Our hands were tied in vietnam...We should have been left to go into the north and finish the fight there. Peace to you and your family John...This Marine holds your plight in high esteem...certainly above the cowards that occupy this great country today and 25 years ago.
