Protest

Your poisoned mind is proof that Jane won

From starrdood, on Fri, 03 May 2002 21:27:08 GMT (in response to: Jane won - one skinny girl beat your ass and you're still complainingand the losers still cry at the loss - one )

The fact that you can get online and point fingers at men and women who fought to preserve American freedom points out just how sick and twisted you are. Like him or not, Jack Nicholson's role in "A Few Good Men" made a good point. There are places in the world where you need someone like him.

There are places in the world where people would gladly shoot your sorry butt simply because you're an American. They would not recognize your human rights. They would not recognize your American citizenship as being worth anything. They would not recognize your right to speak your mind, eat the foods you want, dress as you choose, or otherwise express your individual differences.

But in this country, you have the right to express your opinions even if it pisses off someone like me. Even if your words rub salt into the emotional and physical wounds of the hundreds of thousands of men and women who managed to come home from the hellish war that was Viet Nam.

You've never been in the military, that's obvious. You've also never been called upon to provide for yourself or a family, that's obvious, too. For if you had been, you'd have a better sense of the terrible responsibility that providing for others' well-being places on a person's shoulders. And, above all, you never went to Viet Nam. Had you been there, you'd know that post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), from which thousands of vets still suffer some thirty to forty years later, was very real and not something to tell someone "get over it." You'd know that missing limbs or the effects of such things as "agent orange" weren't things you simply "get over."

Frankly, it pisses me off that there's no way to shut someone like you up. But, that's how it is in this country. You have freedom to express your opinions, no matter how ill-informed, or how poorly intended.

And the reason this country still allows ingrates such as you to spout off your uninformed, inexperienced views is simply because that's the American way. As a rule, we try to protect the weak, we try to provide for the impoverished, and we seek to make things better--for ourselves, our families, our country, and the world.

Is America perfect? No. Far from it. Is there anything better anyplace else in the world? Not a chance.

I'll say this to you, nose to nose. If I were worried about someone robbing my home, killing me or my family, or diminishing my freedom, I'd want one of those Viet Nam vets you so callously dissed any day before I'd ever hope for someone like you to stand by my side or watch my back.

So, until you've been in a war to protect our shores from foreign invaders, or marched into battle to protect our neighbors from similar invasions, you have no right to talk to those who have. Shut up.
