The nation (U.S.A.) betrayed those that went to Vietnam not Jane Fonda! This country got into that conflict with no intention what so ever of winning it. The politicians running the country at that time were only interested in filling their bank accounts with money earned with kick-backs from defense contracted companies making planes, guns, helicopters, ammunition, military clothing, ships and anything else having to do with the defense industry. They figured that the American people would go along with the Vietnam adventure like they did with all the other wars this country managed to get themselves into. Singing Yankee Doodle Dandy and waving the flag saying "Well if Uncle Sam says go I guess it must be the right thing to do".
They only freaked with their thumbs up their ass their head in the cookie jar and a big grin to pass the time of day with when the citizens of this nation (including Vietnam Vets) began to protest about it. American service men and women who died, were wounded and maimed in Southeast Asia did so as nothing more than mercenary troops sent in by the United States to fight South Vietnams war. Their own citizens refused to fight the NVA choosing instead to rob those same U.S. G.I.'s blind every chance they got.
Then Jane Fonda comes along and makes a trip to North Vietnam, a nation that the United States had not declared war on visits the capital city sits in an anti-aircraft gun makes a few radio broadcasts about what she had witnessed and seen and the very politicians who are leading the ignorant masses of this country in this mercenary action brand her as a traitor WHY? Because she felt the United States involvment in it was wrong? Because she saw this country bombing a nation that was no threat to it? Because she saw that an end to it would mean an end to the killing of people on both sides? SURE Those crooks in D.C. who were no better than organized crime families would lose millions if the U.S. got out of there. Not one United States politician during that entire conflict lost a son there. If anything Jane Fonda her methods right or wrong at least had the guts to go over there and try something to put a bug up the ass of the leaders of this country until they finally succumbed and decided it was time to end their little gig. Unfortunately by that time some 58,000 Americans had paid the price. If any one is guilty of treason it certainly isn't Jane Fonda!
Because it was people like her and Muhammed Ali and the hundreds who opposed the draft and went to Canada that were the real heroes of the Vietnam War not the ones who fell for all the patriotic "Serve your country" "When your country calls" Bullshit and went which helped keep the politicians racket going for so long!
