If the accusations against Ms. Fonda are true, her actions do not constitute free speech, but rather treason. In fact, if it weren't for the soldiers who were willing to give their lives for the Constitution that they are sworn to protect, we wouldn't enjoy the right to free speech. It is not the soldiers' job to judge the fight that they are engaged in - it is their job to do whatever the leaders of our country deem necessary to protect the rights that we have. The soldiers who fought in Viet Nam were not "baby killers," instead they were extremely brave men who did all that they could so they generations after them could enjoy the priveleges that being an American affords. Anyone who shows disrespect to these people does not deserve the rights that they defend. Finally, one must bear in mind that history repeats itself. By not remembering the horrific actions of some (such as Hanoi Jane) we open the door to the possibility of people like her committing disgusting acts like hers in the future. As the girlfriend of a Marine who will soon be deployed overseas to continue to protect our freedom, I think its necessary to illustrate the need for respect and admiration for the people who make it possible to live in one of the most priveleged countries in the world.
