Protest

Protesting is part of democracy!

From Stephanie Holt, on Fri, 01 May 1998 03:02:23 GMT (in response to: Protesting Wrong Way!)

All I have to say is that this is a bunch of crap.
Looking back on our American colonial heritage, we should
be able to see that demonstrating is part of democracy.
We opposed the "Intolerable Acts" then and now we are just
supposed to sit idly by, waiting for someone to read our
minds? The men and women who served our nation in this
war are not to blame. I honor them and those who died on
the battlefield wholeheartedly. However, when people begin
denying the rights of freedom of speech and press, I find
that to be a crime against democracy and the American way.
If protesters are commiting crimes such as being violent in
their actions, they should be punished without a doubt.
However, there is nothing we should do or say against those
people who were simply exercising their rights as freedom-
loving Americans.
