Hi I am working on my master's and want to do some research of the draft resistance. I want to tell the story of what was going on with the resisters. Primarily I am interested in 1. Why you were against the war...was it just Vietnam or were you a C.O. in general? 2. Did you leave the country? go to prison? 3. How did you family feel? your friends? 4. Did you understand the historical context of the war? 5. What was your primary motive...fear of war in general or were you trying to preserve the integrity of the Constituion/government "of the people"
I would also be interested in hearing from men and women who served in Vietnam...especially if you were sympathetic to resisters. Why did you go? Do you feel betrayed by the government knowing what you know now? What did you see in Vietnam that was not what you expected when you arrived? Were the South Vietnamese frustrating to work with? Did you get a feeling that you were accomplishing something good or were you disillusioned.
Pleae be truthful in replies. I am not here to judge anyone. I just want to preserve the history. I am interested in war and how it affects the average citizen. Thanks, Julie
