Sorry, but that argument is contradicted by its own logic .. the US LOST the Vietnam War .. yet a Red wave didn't sweep across Asia, threatening to fatally undermine the 'American way of life', did it??
That same argument was (is) used to justify economic sanctions against Cuba ..okay, errm, Castro has been in power over 50 years (I think?) now, yet his presence neighbouring the States hasn't led to hordes of Reds, socialists or even (eeeeek!!) 'liberals' setting off from Havana ..
That argument is just an excuse for American imperialism (whether in the form of economic sanctions or backing for central American death squads & oppressive regimes, etc), essentially, in my opinion.
