.I'm a Vietnamese and doing my PhD in Germany. (This page is surely not accessible in VN). I saw some offensive messages posted by southern Vietnamese here, which seem to make the Americans understand that they did a great job when they came to my country. In order for the Americans to understand correctly what is true, I am writing some words here. I'm NOT the one who is going to tell any war is wrong. Some are right as well. But the Americans here have said enough about whether the war is wrong or right. So I'm not going to tell about it.
.To the former Southerners: The ancestors of Vietnamese nation are from the north. Southern areas used to be the land of other nations, just about 300 years ago. Thanks to the effort of northern ancestors, Vietnam is what it is today. When your line of thinking is all against the North, are you aware that the southern area of Vietnam today would be something like Palestine? Never think that you would be better living in your "Republic of South Vietnam", 'cause things like that will never happen. Unification is what people fight for. If you are of the opinion that North and South Korea don't fight, or the former West and East Germany didn't fight for a united country, it is just because of your limited knowledge. I pity you.
.VC were supported by the southerners as well. Without the support of the Southern Vietnamese the VC would not win. I'm wondering what kind of Vietnamese the Vietnamese Americans used to be, perhaps a few people that are directly benefited from the presence of the Americans in my country.
.VC are not what you said. They liberated my country from the French. There were unfortunately no other forces, or even now, can replace them. The fact that my country is still among the least developed countries does not imply VC are all wrong. It's due to series of mistakes they made, that the Vietnamese Americans are not able to understand, and we are not talking about it here.
.Why you came (ran) to the united states, and why were you accepted by the US? Are you war criminals? Or simply just want a better life? In any case, you're not in the position to talk about the war. You (Vietnamese Americans) should be out of my country, cause you don't understand Vietnamese history and against the Vietnamese nation, not only the VC.
.Your saying that "VC stayed rain forest" is wrong. There is no rain forest in North Vietnam. Even if VC stayed in forest, that is to avoid the chase of the French. Where were you then? You were out of our struggle for independence, are not patriot, why keep talking about it? HCM is a great man. Well back in the history, After my country fell into the French's hand, the French behaved in the typical colonial way and exploited the country's resources. For example, as of 1930, 70 percent of Vietnamese farmers became landless. Our Vietnamese people fought bravely and sacrificed their lives to free their nation, but ultimately, it appeared when all other means failed, President Ho Chi Minh burned the fire of imagination among Vietnamese and taught them the basics of Communism. He chose the right way to unite power among people, led the struggle for independence, and founded the "Democratic Republic of Vietnam" on 2 September 1945. He founded Vietnam. History is made up by men like that! Communism is just the measure to help liberate my country. Don't stay there and say HCM is wrong because he brought Communism to Vietnam. If it didn't take place, there wouldn't be Vietnam to introduce capitalism or anything you might be thinking of!!! Most of VC's mistakes were made when Uncle Ho already died. Hate makes the Vietnamese Americans mix everything up.
.Now I have a question for the true Americans (not for the uneducated Americans). What is behind all your external policies to intervene in all international conflicts? Do you think that without you the world would be wrong? Who are the policy makers? I don't believe that the president alone can do all these.
.Finally, to the true Americans: you are not advised to listen to the Vietnamese Americans when they talk about Vietnam war!
