Protest

bravo to all three, sja dinh thi phuc, and unknown

From carolyn, on Sat, 18 Jul 1998 05:48:08 GMT (in response to: Let Them Come to America)

Thank you to all of you who took the time to express your thoughts and emotions. I agree "let them come to American" was very well said... and Dinh Thi Phuc... I understand, also, what you are saying... and to the person from south vietnam, "the republican" I can also hear you. And the calm comes in knowing that each of you speak valid truths. I was in highschool during the vietnam war and I remember vividly saying good-bye to my brother at the airport. I kissed his cheek with the knowledge that I would never see him again. He believed that he was doing the right thing, based on the information that he was given. Just like you Dinh Thi Phuc, you believed that you were doing the right thing, based on the information that you were given. And if you think about it, the protesters were doing what they thought was right, as well as those who avoided the draft. It boggles my mind when I stopped to think that I am writing to a person from North Vietnam (VC) and saying that I understand what you are saying... imagine a world without borders, without Ho Chi Mins and Eisenhowers... contrary to popular belief, Kennedy and Johnson inheited that position, but I guess also continued it... lets stop and think about the context of each person's thoughts and actions. Even poor ole Eisenhower... who remembers the terror we all felt for "communism?" Who remembers the bells ringing in the schools and we all had to jump under our desks, to practice for the communist attack? Dinh Thi Phuc, It was difficult for me to understand your "context" at first given the emotion of my past... but eventually, thank-you for having the courage to express your thoughts... and thank-you for helping me understand.
