Montagnards

The one that really brings back memories, both good and freaky

From David A. Powell, on Wed, 03 Nov 1999 20:15:57 GMT

The picture of the girl washing clothes reminds me of when we were on a hipshoot in the Kontum, Dak To/ Ben Het area. Two howitzers from the 1st BN. 92nd Arty. (from Arty. Hill in Pleiku) were dropped off on an LZ in what seemed like the middle of nowhere. The place had the "REDDEST" soil I had seen in my tour. When the guns were set-up, we showered in front of a dam similar to the one in the photo while the women of the village washed clothes downstream. The freaky part... they had the "BIGGEST" centipedes I've seen in my life and I stepped on one in my "Ho Chi Minh's". Damn thing wrapped itself almost all the way around my foot.
