Montagnards

Montagnard village, Kontum

From Mark Richardson, on Sat, 02 Aug 1997 03:34:47 GMT

Dear Sir, I am writing to you as a very longshot. I want to locate photos of a Bahnar village called Kon Hra Chot. (Pre 1972 photos)or more specifically the Bahnar soldiers who were fighting against the north. Or even more specifically one particular man whose name was GOH (He was unfortunately shot and killed in 1972 when defending the village from attack). You may think that this is a strange quest but let me explain. I was a volunteer worker in Kontum 94-95 and have been back 3 times since. I have married a Bahnar lady (aug6/96). She was born in 1971 and her Father died in1972. His name was Goh. His family's house was torched as was all their possessions including photos. Nothing remained. I ask you to forward this mail to others who may have been there. Kon Hra Chot is the village located between the banks of the river Dakbla and the town of Kontum itself. Its opposite the French church but before the wooden church. I hope these landmarks are familiar. I really would like to hear anecdotes from that period and would gladly pay for any photos that anyone might have relating to Kon Hra Chot. Anyone who wants to open a dialogue about the yards today in the Kontum area today are more than welcome. Perhaps I might even be able to locate old friends through my numerous in-laws. Thankyou for taking the time to read this mail. Please pass it on. Thank you. Yours amicably, Mark Richardson...
