As you probably know, the term "Montagnards" = mountain tribesmen, applies to the many tribes, most of them of malayo-polynesian origin. I had the pleasure of working with these fine people, first while an S-5 with the 1/10 cav, then as an advisor to the RF/PF. While many referred to this diverse group as uncivilized, I found them to display a level of what I believe to be the essence, the ideal of what many of us like to call civilization. During my service in that war-torn country, I have never met a "Montagnard" who would lie, let alone one who would steal. When I left Vietnam, it was with profound sorrow for the future of those fine people after our departure.
