Kao thao hiap grai (I speak Jarai)

From Gary D. Martin, on Sat, 13 May 2000 02:48:40 GMT (in response to: Jarai Dictionary)

I was a young SP5 in charge of the 704th Maintenance Battalion's Civil Affairs team at Camp Enari, Pleiku in 1969. I learned Jarai quickly and taught school in Plei Khoih Lo, one of the four villages we were assigned. I sometimes still dream in Jarai. They pulled me out of the field with about a month and a half left in my tour and I edited a Jarai-English, English-Jarai dictionary for DISCOM. I lost my copy when I moved several years ago and would be very interested in obtaining another copy, if one exists. This one was mimeographed with a green cover depicting a thatched Jarai sang (house) on stilts. I would love to hear from anyone who has dictionaries, or speaks the language or knows anything of the plight of the Jarai today. The Jarai I worked with were some of the most open, warm-hearted people I have ever met and I miss them today.
