Montagnards

Montagnard wealth

From Roger Hawkins, on Wed, 04 Sep 1996 21:10:58 GMT (in response to: Vietnam Portfolio -- Montagnard Tribesmen)

Just a footnote to history, added with all respect to the
Bru, the Bhnar, Rhade and the other tribes that we lump together
under the French term, "Montagnard."

Rice was life to the Montagnards. Hoarding rice
was like an American buying insurance.

In addition to the many Vietnamese now living in San Jose, CA.,
there is also a small community of Montagnards. One day the
second floor of a small apartment collapsed. The Montagnard tenant
had filled a second floor room with bags of rice until
eventually the beams came tumbling down.

If there is a moral to the story, it is "keep your rice on the
floor."
