The Vietnam War encompassed too many issues to just say that it was either right or wrong. The senseless killing and destruction that occurred was wrong...the attempt to keep the South independent was right. After much thought I no longer blame the people that ran to Europe and Canada to escape the draft....the politicians had no idea what they were doing and were getting alot of people killed. As far as the Hmong people are concerned I have never heard anyone that actually served in Vietnam have anything but respect for the Hmong.
Should the US and it's allies have entered the war?....maybe not....if we had not the North would have just invaded sooner and implemented it's ethnic cleansing without resistance. One other point to keep in mind....the US and it's allies were "asked" by South Vietnam to enter the war....historians for some reason seem to think the US and it's allies simply invaded Vietnam without ever being invited by the South Vietnamese government. The death and destruction wrought by the Vietnam War is still very painful for many of us.. ..some of us will never fully recover from it. To me one of the saddest parts of it all is that there was no glorious victory for the people of Vietnam...both North and South....even after such a violent and costly war the North took over and ruined the entire country both politically and economically....and the final irony of it all is....look who the Vietnamese government is now coming to for help.....the U.S.
