Military

No Draft, More Police

From A Viet Nam Vet, on Sun, 23 Sep 2001 19:56:36 GMT (in response to: No Draft)

If the politicians let the military fight this war, and it is a war, there will be no draft. If you want to know how this war should be fought, learn how the LRRP units operated in Viet Nam. This will be a Delta Force war, small units, quick in and quick out. Any long term units in enemy territory will be small ranger units with a few snipers attached. Special Forces units will be training the local enemies-of-our-enemy to attack our enemy. Any strategic bombing will only increase civilian casualties, turning the local civialians against us. The military does not want draftees doing this kind of work.

The biggest impact of this war will be here in the US. We the people must decide how many of our rights we will be willing to give up to insure our safety. There must be an increase in highly trained civilian police units. These policemen must be very visible at all areas where a lot of people congregate. Will these police have the right to use "profiling" to detain an individual? Will these police have the right to arrest, search and seize without a warrent? Will the immigration service have the right to deny a person entry to the US because that person comes from an area of "known terrorists activity"? Do you want to be arrested because you inadvertently carried a small pocket knife on an airplane? These are the questions that the people of this country must answer.
