I was a lucky one at the end. My draft number was under #20 and I didn't get called. However, I did eventually wind up in the military and have had the privelege and honor to have served with many veterans. We have shared many laughs, drinks, tears, and stories. They don't often go in depth, but they know I feel with them. I must admit that I've never told any of them welcome home, they seemed to look more for "thank you" and "please understand". I've even served with some of their children who don't quite understand but love and honor their fathers. All I ask at this point is that when they talk, listen and love them, they are all people of character. To the younger generation do not either forget theWWII and Korean veterans who are now passing over to join comrades long gone, for they too lived on the edge. I promised my friends not to let the next generations to forget Viet Nam. Love to all who serve.
