I was born in 1968, so I can berely remember the war on tv. My dad served and brought us up with a profound respect for our country and those who served it. I have always had a need to understand the war and wars in general. My family was always in them it seemed. My mom an dads uncles would tell us stories about walking across France, or being in the Bataan death march, I have relatives buried at the cemetaries over Omaha beach. My dad would get kind of sad when he talked about guys he knew that didnt come home from Viet-nam(I dont say Nam,,,, thats reserved for you guys),and still I had a need to understand. I went into the military in 1987 and served till 1992, during this time I experienced a sense of brotherhood and comeraderie that I doubt I will ever see again. I was sent to Desert Storm( Sandbox Skirmish ) and I finally got what I had been looking for,,,,an understanding of war. I then found out that I didnt want to understand anymore. It makes no sense. I guess what Im trying to say is that if what I saw in a few short weeks has had such an effect on me, then how can we ever understand what a year or longer did to you guys? I just want to say WELCOME HOME, and that all of you can have my parade,,,I didnt deserve it.
