In search of fallen solders

From Rey A. Romero, on Wed, 31 May 2000 13:10:52 GMT

I just want those of you who served and gave life and limb in service to your country to know that I carry the pain and anger that our government and war inflicted on you all. I was only a child during the height of the conflict. I remember watching the fighting every night on the news. GOD how it scared me. Well here I am 30 years older and still frightened by the images portrayed on the TV over 34 years ago. I've been a member of the USAF for 17 years. Last year I traveled to Vietnam as part of Joint Task Force Full Accounting (The search for American remains lost during the Vietnam conflict). We worked out of a province called Bac Chan (not sure of spelling), about 50 clicks south of Hanoi. We we looking for a AF Major who had his F-111 shot down over the paddy dikes on a bombing run on a bridge in the loval town. Well after thirty days we were able to recover large amounts of aircraft wreckage and some bone fragments and a couple of teeth. The remains were returned to the Central Identification Lab in Hawaii. I can only pray that we recovered enough for identification. It's time for the family to have closer. I just want to thank you for all you've done and continue to do for this country. It was an honor to walk in your footsteps. GOD Bless you all!
