I want to express thanks for the sacrifices made. The war ended shortly before I could enlist, but the fallout was still in the air. Got that "eye" when wearing uniforms in public, and you didn't wear one if you wanted to be a successful hitchhiker. I served with several vets who came back into the big green wienie after a couple years in the world. They were in their early-mid 20's, and DI's then were either Korean vets, or Viet vets in their late-20's who had experienced Nam's early years. All were good guys seemingly alone and distant. I was lucky, it was close for me, almost too close. The war went on for too long and touched too many. To this day I have mixed feelings whether or not we should've been there, but back when I was in I felt sorry I was too late. Now I that I'm middle-aged I know I had been a fool to ever feel that way. No words can ever completely express what you people went through. I know my nine years worth of seeing deadly or crippling training accidents in a record-holding MBT line armor battalion didn't even begin to equal a week's experience for some in the Nam. I agree that there are sights and names you will never forget, I can relate to that. But I didn't see jack in comparison. I realize most vets were remf's, but those who weren't know who you are. But because you all got it done, whether eleven boo, 64 charlie, jet jockey, or pencil pusher, whatever have you, I didn't have to go. Thanks again!
