WIth no intention of offending anyone I would like to say that the one thing the United States and its people have not done yet is learn about the war.
After a long isolation policy (before the first world war and in the inter war period) The US decided to modify this international policy. Thay decided that it was all right to send inocent military men to their deaths in order to stop the spread of communism.
The U.S people have not leant that other people in other places of the world have the right to lead their economic and plotical lifes in anyway they see fit. Democracy, tolerance and difference go hand in hand. The policy of your goeverment sent millons to their deaths. Why? Because they think they know what people think. They have brain washed whole generations in thinking that any set of people (nations) that want to be communist must be vanquished. And if stoping this means sending US soldiers to their deaths it doesnt matter ( in any case it is the latin and black communities that suffer the most)
I was shocked to read a message that said "Thanks for fighting for us" Do people honestly believe that a communist country in South East Asia was a threat to The US. They were not fighting for you. Your were not at risk.
If countries have a strong political regime and are democratic why should communism be a threat. Why not let people differ.
You should not feel proud of starting wars everywhere you go. US people should be ashamed and ask its goverment to change policies. How. Vote. This is not to say soldiers are at fault. But the whole heroic scenario should be thought about a bit more carefully. This type of patriotism, is exactly the same type of patriotism that existed in Germany in 1933. Is the same kind of partiotism that scares un today with the new extreme right Austiran Coalition
