PLEASE READ, VETERANS

From Max Steever, on Sun, 31 Oct 1999 07:38:30 GMT

Hello friends.

Please do not simply ignore my post if you are a veteran. That being said, I may continue.

I am a 20 year old male, and have embarked on a quest to find truth- truth not only in the present tense, but in the past, as well. I have been very interested in Vietnam as I feel that it is one of the most important events (and misconceptions) that this half-century has seen. As such, I have been strugggling mightily to find the truth behind it, to find the real war, to live out this integral component of history for the first time. If you are a veteran, please e-mail me at max_steever88@hotmail.com and share with me your thoughts and recollections from the war. Believe me, your words will be appreciated- I'm sick of looking to movies to help me out. I need to speak to a live veteran. Please do not mistake me for a superficial kid who's only interested in Vietnam because of the fame. I genuinely want to recount memories. I feel that it is the duty of those who lived through it to articulate their experiences to us young 'uns, as we have yet to invent a time machine to take us back to periods of great importance. We rely on you...solely. You may think that your ramblings are boring- but remember, I am trying to live out history in the present. I find any words (especially those filled with deep sentiment and passion) helpful and intriguing. You will not disappoint me if you extend to me your knowledge. You may think that you were unlucky to fight in Vietnam. I beg to differ. You get the chance to recount your time there to kids like me, to spread history over subsequent eras and to indulge in the preservation of the life of a memory.

max_steever88@hotmail.com is your ticket to feeling young again.

Thank you for your time, Max
