I'm seventeen years old and i am just one of the many who are completing my Australian HSC course; one of my subjects as Modern History for this year. One of my options this year was to learn about the continuing conflict in indochina- and for the first time in my life, i am realising the psycological effects of the vietnam war ; both on the vietnamese as the victims and the soldiers or recruits who fought in the long battle, in which many know little about. Before i studied this option, i knew very little about it; in fact, i hardly knew the name of it. Now, i am better educated in this area of modern world history, but i am just realising that although there may be many who remember the war or were plauged by it's effects, it is fading in the memory of the people, due to the lack of education in the area ; in particularly the younger generation, who was not present during this time. I just hope one day, a clearer understanding to a larger group know about it and realise it's effects on the world today.
