As a Vietnamese American living in Kansas, the Vietnam War is not far away from me at all. My father fought 9 years in that war, wounded two times severely, and nearly lost his life. From looking at these Portfolio pictures of the children of this devastating war, I realize the eyes say everything. Of all the parts of the human body, I believe the eye has the power to transform a person's soul, especially if that eye belongs to that of a war-stricken child. The children of Vietnam, those who lived during the war, and those who are growing up now, know what war is all about. They know, though Vietnam is still a poor country and many of its people are not educated, that war could kill and destroy. Vietnam was nearly destroyed during its 30 years of war; let us hope that in the future Vietnam won't be afflicted with the curse of war. The eyes have seen and heard the terror of the guns. Just a message from a Vietnamese-American in eastern Kansas.
