Remember 'Charlie' gave you the boot

From Ben, on Tue, 07 Aug 2001 07:59:23 GMT (in response to: This is wrong)

Wow... I have not heard such a petty and derisive comment like that in years. If you want me to explain myself more mono-syllabically, then I can oblige a homunculus or two. I went to Vietnam last year and I encountered American Vets (and people with stories of American Vets) who cannot let go or are still fighting what the people call the 'American War' in their minds. As Dante said in the Inferno, if cannot forgive your enemy , then you will always be frozen to them. Had Vietnamese troops gone over and fought a war (let us say in the good ol' South of the USA) as well as the theft, rape, murder, and imprisonment (strategic hamlets akin to the Spanish camps in colonial Cuba) which ensued, the residents would not be as half as forgiving as the Vietnamese people. To this day, some people still cannot forgive or forget those "Yankee bastards who raped our land" as a result of the Civil War.

As for the soldiers who fought in that horribly planned war, I feel for them. The US Forces should have been annexed by the ANZACs who fought a more successful battle due to their training in Borneo and their greater understanding of the Vietnamese than the shoot and ask questions later American troops. They were just tools for a war about money and the US's dreams for colonialism which began during the Spanish-American war conquests. History tells us that once the Cubans and Filipiinos were liberated from their Spanish oppressors by the USA, the US took over both countries because 1) the Cuban Rebels were mostly poor "Black" farmers during a time when Jim Crow laws were in full effect and 2) Filipinos were believed to be too childlike and incompetant to run their own country. These attitudes were to continued in America's quest for Vietnamization.

Three things to consider when you step outside:

1) Always bring a towel with you (HGTG)

2) "Do not mess with a Sicilian when death is on the line"

3) Viet Nam has a had a long and proud history of kicking out invaders...from the always tenacious Chinese forces, the uber-hopeful Japanese, and the lecherous French.
