Slappy, Do you know who Samy Sosa is? He is a professional baseball player in the USA. He is from a city in Dominican Republic called San Pedro de Macoris. Baseball is a favorite in the Dominican Republic. On a previous trip I was in this city. While I was there I visited sugar cane plantations called "bateys". When I arrived I saw many children paying baseball. Except it wasn't with a ball or bat. It was with a rusty can and a stick. I joined in. This was probably the best game of baseball I had ever played. The children all had big dreams and expected nothing else. Every kid wanted to be the next Samy Sosa. It was quite the experience talking to the people there. As I was talking to a blind cripple one day he proved Temi correct. He told me that people have many children in hopes of them prospering. Many of the children die before the age of 5 so they must have many children. Almost all of the children do not end up playing ball but they do work and support there families.
