be angry ~ but don't blame anyone

From Rich Tarrant, on Tue, 24 Jul 2001 17:14:06 GMT (in response to: Bloody Americans!)

as a person who served in the Republic of Vietnam i knew no American soldiers who wanted to lose that war. you have to understand that our hands were tied. we, essentially, were not allowed to take the offensive and take the war to the north where it could have been won in short order. the politicians and big businesses back in the states controlled that war as a matter of economics. when we got home we pushed to end it because it was going nowhere. and we paid the price for our protestations. the Vietnamese people (north or south) were the losers; as were the Americanwomen and men who lost their lives in the conflict. had sanity sans greed been a factor in the USA's decision to enter this theater Ho probably would have lost the entire country well before i arrived there in 1965; because Communism is a flat out failure.

so be angry about the children ~ but don't blame anyone. we all could have done better. and that's what we should try to do
