58,132 men lost. WHY????????

From Robert, on Thu, 03 Oct 1996 07:06:43 GMT

Why did we lose so many men. Why were we even in the

war anyways. What was in South East Asia that the U.S needed.

Well I don't think you could answer those questions. My father

wasn't in Vietnam even though he was supposed to go, he went anyways

to South Korea. You probably are thinking, "well he got off easy."

Well in a way he did, And as his son thank god. But, he was there

in case the North Koreans decided to over throw South Korea

like in the Korean war. Well when my dad got there, the General

told my dad and other solders that, "if the North Koreans come,

90% of you will be killed." The North Koreans didn't come, but

if you where to here that you would want to have been in Vietnam

too. I listen to my dad, my uncle and my dads friends that were

in Vietnam and they tell some funny stories, but they also tell

some horrable stories to. I listen and I go, "WHY. What was the

point to go over there and get our asses kicked." I am also

disgusted at how the U.S at that time didn't get be hinded our

troops who where putting there lives on the line for what, and

I believe the real reason we where there was to end Comminism(spelling error sorry)

When my dad came home, like so many other troops he had to go

through the back door of the airport at midnight. To me that

is wrong on the citizens of the U.S. at that time. Finally

I was rather bewildered at how the U.S. today still, still

hates the U.S troops who fought in that hell hole in South East

Asia and we as a country don't recognize that. The troops in

the Gulf War(not really a war gust a real life practice so say)

got a bigger welcome home then did the troops in Vietnam.
