Military

Peace IS the military's job

From John, Phu Lam '71-'72, on Fri, 10 Jul 1998 14:03:18 GMT (in response to: Carry the Big Stick )

Thanks Frank, I'm not sure where Tom (disatcong '69-'70) is coming from. I may see his point but not agree with it. War is not inevitable, just because we keep doing it. What will insure war is our not being prepared for it, and having liars in government.

Slick Willie says he's shrunk the government. The Federal Gov't. is larger than ever before in history, in terms of dollars, people employed, and interference in our lives. Slick Willie has reduced the size and preparedness of our military so much, government looks smaller. That means he has shrunk our ability to serve and protect faster than he has enlarged the rest of the Federal machine.

Slick is a liar. He lied about his draft avoidance. He went to Moscow while you and I were in Viet Nam. He is the Jane Fonda of politicians. He continues to lie about our military's ability to do its job: peace. The best used soldier is the one that is not needed, because his presence deterred war.

I suspect Slick has an agenda concerning our military. He wants to dismantle it. Doing so would justify his past behaviour. His presence in the White House is a blemish on America's present, and an insult to America's history.

Only about 2.5 million men and women served in Viet Nam, about 1% of the country. Slick Willie did not appreciate our service then, and his continued behaviour threatens peace today.
