What's Up With That ??

From Dave, on Mon, 30 Mar 1998 19:53:58 GMT (in response to: WISH ALL VETS WERE KILLED)

I must say, that was fairly nasty! Sure, massacres did happen, (such as MyLai)-but you have to consider the extreme mental anguish these men were under. The first stage of any war is to depict the enemy as anything but human--then imagine being thrown into an environment where you couldn't see the enemy and when you did he/she looked exactly like civy's. Now, combine that with the fact you get shit rations, very little sleep, and physical exhaustion--criminal acts are natural in that environment. If you want to see crap like you talked about, just step out your front door, hate and bloodshed is everywhere. It's o.k. to give your opinion, but please remember the everyone in 'Nam was a victim as well as a Perpetrator. Also, I'm not a American--I'm Canadian, but I am a history major and do know a thing or 2 about 'Nam..however we obvously lack Vet's--people I could talk to and put names to all the stories, stats, and uniformed opinions I've heard over the years. You Yank's should embrace what you have and learn from the lessons the Vietnam War has to offer all of us.
