Let him who is without sin, cast the first stone

From Dragon Lady, on Tue, 17 Mar 1998 02:17:03 GMT (in response to: WISH ALL VETS WERE KILLED)

I read your response and was rather appalled that while you condemn another for a violent act, you wish such violence on those you condemn. You seem to be making a generalization also, based on one incident that you have read about. I am sure that there were many incidents of unnecessary violence that occurred during the war, but I am sure that there were also many acts of unnecessary kindness. I have a friend who served in Vietnam. She was a Social Worker with the Red Cross. Would you wish her dead also? I think that it is very easy for many of our generation to condemn so much of what has occurred in the past, but the truth of the matter is that we were not there and no matter how many books or movies we watch, we will NEVER know what it was like to be in that situation. NEVER. I am not saying that I agree with the rape of a child. That is one of the most horrible offenses that can be perpetrated, but' what I am saying is that you cannot hold an entire population of veterans responsible for an act perpetrated by a small group within the larger group. I agree that those who committed the crime should be punished, but how can anyone condemn those who had nothing to do with it...Is this the US? Where do you live? Well, perhaps you live on a planet that believes in punishing the innocent..I do not.
