Why "No response" From Ron M>?

From Dan M., on Sat, 14 Sep 1996 16:06:21 GMT

Chief M., I'm surprised you didn't respond and carry on some dialog. Didn't mean to insult you at all, but, having "been there, done that, got the T-Shirt (and a couple of Purple Tickers) I can't help but be dismayed at your ideological views on the war you most likely didn't see. I guess you've retited? 27 years of military service left me with many fond memories, and lots of nice experiences. it's simply that, during those years, I was overseas 17 of 'em, had four remotes, etc. It's the notion that "rear echelon" folks like you (again, no offense, but...) never seemed to endure that sort of duty. I know about dining outs/ins, graduations, NCOA, AFSA, AFA, etc., but opportunities to have all that fun were scarce. Did the PME, (all of it both ways) got the CCAF, BS and an MA (on my own time and it took far longer then for those who didn't have those remotes, weren't air crew memebrs, etc.) and never remained in one place much more than 2 to 3 years. I can't help but think that your career probably didn't mean too many moves, no remotes (maybe one?), etc. Yet you philosphise about this topic and seem myopic in your scope. Your comment to the LCpl about getting education...nice idea, but it's tough when you're with a BLT and floating aboard an LST or APA every six months, rotating to Okinawa, and i the field on a regular basis. Remember, the military career isn't all AF...USA and USMC and USN have a different kind of commitment. Ever see every othe service member have a pager/cell phone/radion, etc, as in the AF?? No, it's much diferent than you have experienced (or not experienced as the case may be) and I think you should open your mind and ears and listen to what the seasoned "salts" and "grunts" have to say. it wasn't you that wore the same clothes for 6 months, pulled leeches off your legs daily, ate "c_rats, paddy water, etc. And the sad part is that we really were lead astray, lied to, and tossed away as easily as used toilet paper when it was over. Best of luck in your new career and furture, I wish you would ahve responded and let us know what your "tour of duty" really was...how many OS tours, how many remotes, etc. It would be helpful and clear up why you think the way you do.
