Is this morally right?

From Jackie Lynn, on Tue, 12 May 1998 18:57:31 GMT

The pictures were an excellent window to the reality of the seriousness of the war. But was the war really the right thing to do? How can any one person actually belive that this war was fought to maintain our freedom, when in actuality it seemed to be a way to "prove" ourself as a powerful nation? Yes, I can understand the fear of the "domino theory" and why the president thought it was necessary to send American troops, torn from their peaceful lives, to Vietnam. This was not our war. I ask you, is this morally right to send innocent Americans to their deaths due to the fear of government? I think not. Others may disagree with me.
The Vietnam Memorial is sure a splendid idea, but is it enough? Maybe so. But the ones who fought and died in the war would probably be turning in their graves if they knew how they were being remembered. The pictures capture a small piece of the troops, but it doesn't show their point of view in the war. I wonder, did they believe their participation was necessary? Or did they want to come back home?
