Military

one note to add

From Sebastien Do, on Thu, 01 Aug 1996 18:20:23 GMT (in response to: war)

This is not the first time I encounted anger and frustration from
American vets about who's doing the fighting and why the South did
not fight hard enough for their freedom.
I like to say on behalf of my father, a seargent in the South
Vietnamese army, that this war had ended politically. My father is
greatful for the US involvement but that had changed the nature
of the war for South Vietnam. In the end, the South Vietnamese
government, civilians, and even the military were in it for
the corruption and business with the Americans. My father experienced
the politics in the army (between the US and the South V.)and he
knew the war was lost. The war was a mess for everyone because he
had seen the Americans pull out without recalling many of the South
V. soldiers from the war zones. South Vietnam did not recoup to
defend. He knew of the fate but he did not desert his unit.
He received 12 years in a reeducation camp.
