Politics

Sounds as though you need to study more and watch hollywood movies less. Politics was only one of many facets in that conflict. As a member of the US military, if you are going to make a comment, make it from a position of strength and knowledge. Shallow viewpoints, like foxholes, make avoiding bullets more difficult. As my son, a US Marine, once said, "If I couldn't be there, I'll learn all I can before forming or expressing an opinion."

By the way, I noticed by your comments that you have a "unique" way of articulating your thoughts. Most Devil Dogs I know would challenge you to enroll in an off-duty education program. I highly recommend English and History. You might also check out the experiences of your unit Master Gunnery Sergeants - they might give you some interesting insight of their perspectives on the conflict. You might not agree, but at least you'll increase your position of strength.
