I do not claim that what I say is right or even acceptable but as a student of the Vietnam war I believe that the veterans who risked their lives in that protracted and embarrassing conflict should not be the ones trying to justify their participations. These men were simply doing a job that many people do not have the courage to do themselves, and so how can we continue to try and undermine their very characters and histories by trying to tell them that they were wrong all that time ago. There comes a time when we must simply accept that some decisions are wrong but the instruments for carrying out that decision are innocent-they risked their lives then,would you want to take them away from them now?
