I'll tell you the real reason we lost the war - just look at American history.
In the American civil war, the South lost because all major battles - with 1 exception (G'burg) - were fought in the South. In Vietnam, all major battles were fought in SOUTH VN. The Confederates WON major victories over the Yanks - like the 1st and 2nd battles of Bull Run. But that did not change the fact that the fighting was leveling the American South.
Andi n VN, we WON major victories over the V/C and NVA - like Khe Sahn and retaking Hue after Tet '68. But that didn't alter the fact that South V/N was being devasted by the fighting.
In the American civil war, Grant lost more men than Lee had in his entire army - but that didn't change the fact that the Northern armies could penetrate the Confederacy - while Johnny Reb's armies couldn't invade the north. In V/N, the NVA could field troops in South V/N - but the US always knew we were NOT going to invade North V/N.
History repeats - we Americans need only read our own history books to forsee that we would lose in V/N.
