I agree with you about it all being glamorized, however, I have to say that I believe Vietnam Vets are both victims AND heros. Victims for the obvious reasons. Hero's because they were there, and they (most) fought (and are still fighting) their own personal wars inside. They are fighting the war of rejection from their own people, the war of the horrors that won't let their memories be, the loss of their friends/their brothers, the loss of their youth, their hearts...I could go on and on. Vietnam Vets lost so much, they've earned that "hero" status. I think that our concepts as a society, of a hero, are misconstrued. We think of heros as Superman, Batman...My Dad has none of these characteristics that comic book characters have. Yet, he is my hero. True, war is a mass of blood, murder, hate and any other negative feeling that is stuck to it. However, people who can go through all that a Vietnam Vet went through (at the tender age of 18, 19, 20, 21- or hell, ANY age), and still come out of it, is a hero to me. Some don't come out of it with their sanity intact, but heck, what do you expect? But there are a lot of people in society that have their sanity misplaced, and they didn't even go to war! The Men of Vietnam, here and gone, are victims; yes, hero's; most definately. At least in my heart. Thanks guys.
