Why do we have to justify it?

From BRYAN (AIR CAV), on Tue, 24 Dec 1996 03:51:31 GMT

Reading this page of comments, I am puzzled by some things.
I am a vet, two tours, decorated and wounded twice.
I lost a hell of a lot of good friends and fought a very determined enemy.
This isn't so different from my dad, except he was class of 45.
So for some reason HE doesn't have to justify the slaughter in Europe and
Africa, or the beastly jungle fights of the far east, but I DO ?
This is the tragedy of the Nam, we can't just talk like vets, even
today we have to defend ourselves and our buddies just like in the bush.
Shit folks, if you weren't there you're,lucky if you were there, you
should be allowed to be proud of it! It was a war, conflict, block-party
whatever! I gave it all I had, for my own reasons, so did most
of the guys who were there. If you can't deal with that...tough shit!
I want to wear my medals and my uniform and march in the vetrans parades
and you who haven't been in the shit will never know why.
I'm not a warmongering psychopath I don't kill people anymore
but I know what it's like and it sucks! You people who want to apply moral values
to a war are idiots, it don't fit! There is nothing moral about war! Any war!
My war wasn't any worse than any other war! So BACK THE HELL OFF!
You talk about massacres and rapes as if we invented them! THINK!
Arm young men and train them, then scare the shit out of them,
then deprive them of sleep, food, leadership, force a survival mentality
on them and then, when some crack, reacting like cornered animals, shun all
of them! Shit on them, spit on them and turn away! Then keep questioning
everyone's motives till they snap, even in civvy life.
Who's really the psychopath?
Sorry, but sometimes it's got to be said!
PS The pictures were great, sometimes WE need to remember.
