You really don't know what you are talking about

From James Fales, on Sun, 26 Jul 1998 03:11:35 GMT (in response to: WOW, you sure don't know what you're talking about.....)

If you are going to point the finger at somebody and state that they dont know what they are talking about then it is an assumption on my part that you should follow that up with some type of statement based in fact. I can tell from your ramblings that you are one that likes to speak in generalities that are well accepted by your leftist, rightest, or middle of the road friends. This is disturbing in that it is more proof to confirm that much of the american public tends to only look skin deep at the issues that have faced our nation. I know that you feel that you have seen into the depth of the issue but in fact you have only barely penetrated the surface. You state opinion as fact and leave it at that. It is probably futile on my part to respond to your comment since you will not take criticism well and wont learn to apply yourself a little more in the future. "The GI's in Nam had no idea what was going on at the time". The really scary part about responding to this statement is if you were one of those GIs. I hope you weren't since you would be a pathetic example of humanity to go to war and not make some attempt at understanding your current plight. I will base my response on the premise that you were not a soldier that went to vietnam during the war since this is the most likely explanation of your ignorance. There were many men, both junior officers and non-commissioned officers, That understood a whole lot about there presence in vietnam. From the micro to the macro and every where in between. It wasn't just the generals and the president that had a clue as to what was going on. There were certain operations in vietnam that had very few to no middlemen involved between the ones conducting the operation and the president himself. The commanders of these operations were relatively low ranking and required that direct or almost direct link between themselves and their commander in chief. I would find it ridiculous to believe that these men did not know what was going on to include the strategic and national level goals that were to be obtained through the conduct of these operations. You are relying on the uninformed persons belief that the soldiers of our military are nothing more than hapless dupes who point and shoot when told to do so. This is not the case today nor was it yesterday. The soldier of the vietnam war was capable of reading and reasoning. It would seem that some of them, no matter how stupid you thought they were, would have some idea of what was going on. So, without even going to the trouble of stateing any hard facts with dates and names, it is simple to deduce that thinking that the GI didn't know what was going on is a foolish concept to accept no matter how little gray matter you have working for you. If you want to surrepticiously call the soldier of the vietnam war era an idiot then you have accomplished your goal. The consolation is that they know what you don't and no amount of explanation will ever divert you from your current course of malignant mediocrity. You are obviously an idiot.
