Welcome
Welcome to my web page. In it, you will find links to my research projects, my journal articles, the classes I teach and some
of my best media quips. But in case you want to skip all of that, here is the short version.
I’m currently an associate professor and department chair at Seton Hall University, in the Center for Public Service and Graduate Department of Public and Healthcare
Administration. I came to Seton Hall after finishing my Ph.D. from the school of Policy, Planning and Development at the University of
Southern California. I served as the research director for the Norman Lear Center local television news archive during my doctoral studies, and
completed a Post-Doc at the University of Wisconsin’s Department of Political Science.
My research focuses on how the media covers the public and nonprofit sectors. Recently, my articles have appeared in Nonprofit and
Voluntary Sector Quarterly, the Stanford Law & Policy Review, Commonwealth and Electronic News. At Seton Hall, I’ve taught just about every course in our
MPA program including the Environment of Public Service, Public Policy Analysis, Public Sector Leadership, Public Sector Ethics, Financial
Management and Budgeting, Research Methods and Strategic Management and Governance. My
CV and selected articles are available online. Feel free to
take a look.
My interest in politics precedes my academic life. I worked as an aide to California Senator Barbara Boxer from 1992-1994 and in the
press and candidate advance operations for several local, state and national political campaigns.
I met my wife Jane during the 1992 New Hampshire presidential primary. We live in central New Jersey with our two kids, Eva and Zach,
and our fantastic dog, Simcha. When I’m not teaching, writing or chasing after the kids, I play catcher and bat clean-up for the
Piscataway Pirates, and over-28 baseball team.
